Rusted Wrench October 2017

The Haunting, 1963

The Haunting, 1963

Just the word October sounds cool and opalescent. The waning year trails off in rusting red and gold shimmers. The wind chills and you can smell deep musty thoughts, the ones repressed in the summer heat, churning in the air.

...not so much in Los Angeles.

There was a desperate need to preserve some Autumn feels in this city of relentless sun and stars. So began the tradition of dedicating the month of October to watching horror films. Nothing too gruesome. Mostly moody, unseen ghosts, vintage thrills and existential horrors. Kitschy entertainment and creepers. A few barely classify as horror at all. This is the 5th year of October film festivities, but for the first time for general public consideration, here is the final viewing list for 2017:

The Birds (1963)

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)

Night of the Comet (1984)

Cat People (1942)

The Wailing (2016)

Rebecca (1940)

Hour of the Wolf (1968)

The Brood (1979)

Get Out (2016)
